Just a quick follow-up to my post from last year. The good news is that my digestion has fully recovered from the gallbladder surgery! I can eat whatever fatty garbage foods I want with minimal issues.

The less good news is that one of the small incisions from my surgery never quite healed right. It took many visits to the surgeon’s office and then the dermatologist to finally get it to close. It continued to cause problems even after that: the scar itself would flare up and become intensely itchy, and I started getting itchy spots elsewhere on my body.

Last fall, I had an awful flare-up associated with getting sick, where my hands broke out in unbelievably itchy blisters like poison ivy, and I had many itchy spots elsewhere on my body. The dermatologist gave me some steroid shots and creams to keep things under control, but since then I have basically always had a handful of itchy spots somewhere on my body. Usually not too bad, but not ideal!

I don’t know why the scar didn’t heal properly, but it seems to have put my immune system on high alert, causing itchy spots to appear all over, especially if I get sick.

After exhausting all other options, today we final took the nuclear option: The dermatologist just excised the whole scar. I have a brand new, much larger wound, but the hope is that this time it will heal cleanly and let my immune system calm down!
